Academic Exchange Agreement with Center for Weather Climate and Disaster Research, National Taiwan University

On 1-2 September 2014, the second Kyoto University National Taiwan University Symposium was held at Kyoto University, and a parallel session: Advanced Disaster Prevention and Mitigation was held at Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) in Uji Campus on September 2.

In the parallel session, DPRI and Center for Weather Climate and Disaster Research (WCDR), National Taiwan University have signed for an academic exchange agreement to promote mutual research cooperation. Following the signing ceremony, researchers from both DPRI and WCDR presented lectures and discussed vigorously on such themes as “Taiwan Extreme Rainfall and Climate Change”, “Rainfall observations and predictions with the latest multi-parameter weather radars network in Japan” and “Polarimetric Radar Study and Application in Taiwan”. DPRI and WCDR are planning to conduct cooperative research on topics presented in the session and to promote further exchange of students and researchers.

In April, 2015, Kyoto University is going to invite researchers from National Taiwan University to a workshop on sediment discharge bypass tunnel which has been planning to hold jointly by Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and Kyoto University. Japan, Swiss and Taiwan are in the course to progress with joint development of technology for sediment management in reservoir.
