-The 2011 Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake-
At 14:46 local time on March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9.0 (revised value by Japan Meteorology Agency on March 13) earthquake occurred off the coast of northeast Japan. DPRI continuously updates this site’s research information and analyses on the disaster.
I’d like to express my sincere condolences on the loss and also my deepest sympathy with the affected by the disaster. DPRI set up the “The 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake Task Force” on March 12 to urge investigations on the disaster onward and to conduct them safely. These investigations are coordinated both within DPRI and with other institutions for efficient reconstruction supports and joint investigations. DPRI also launched “Immediate investigations and researches” to understand the actual conditions in the affected areas and observe the issues for further studies. In the course of the investigations, we are taking active parts in supporting and re-establishing the disaster stricken areas. I hereby express, on behalf of DPRI, that we are ready to contribute as much as possible for the recovery of the suffering areas and also of the entire Japan from this disaster. (Masayoshi Nakashima, Director of DPRI)
