| Job description | The JST-commissioned research theme, ” Advanced Data and Methods to Improve Hazard Resilience for Underrepresented Groups: Labor Shortages and Immigrant Workers in Small and Mid-Sized Businesses” focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises, and aims to conduct research and development related to: Building a database to support the rapid recovery of local economies from disasters; Quantifying resilience using economics and statistics; and Deriving support measures for businesses vulnerable to disasters. We are looking for researchers who can be in charge of the following research and development (any of them is acceptable) in carrying out this research.
– Research modeling disaster recovery processes using business establishment survey data through statistical and econometric approaches – Research analyzing business recovery processes utilizing alternative data such as satellite imagery and probe data – Research conducting field surveys on the social vulnerability of businesses to derive useful policy insights |
| Required qualifications | [Indispensable condition]
(1) Applicants must meet either of the following criteria: i) Hold a doctoral degree (or be expected to obtain one by the time of appointment) or possess equivalent research or professional experience. ii) Hold a master’s degree and demonstrate a strong commitment to pursuing a doctoral degree (2) Have research and/or practical experience in statistics, econometrics, spatial data analysis, and practical sciences related to socio-economic activities. [Desirable condition] (3) Have experience in data analysis using econometric models and deep learning models, as well as experience in database development through field surveys and remote sensing (4) Have a strong motivation to reduce the socio-economic impacts of disasters and support people in vulnerable situations. |
| Contract period | 1st April 2026~31st March 2027 (1 year) |
| Trial period | 6 months |
| Working hours | Discretionary labor system (standard working hours: 7 hours 45 minutes per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week). If the discretionary labor system is not chosen the working hours are from 8:30 to 17:15 with a break between 12:00 to 13:00. Overtime may be ordered.
Days off: Saturdays, Sundays, Statutory holidays under the Act on National Holidays, Year-end and New Year’s holidays, and Anniversary of the Foundation of the University. |
| Salary | 300,000 JPY /month (for PhD holder)・ 250,000 JPY /month (for Master’s degree holder)
(Determined based on the university’s payment standards, according to ability and experience) |
