“Kataribe KOBE1995,” awarded the 79th Kobe Shimbun Peace Prize

Congratulations to Prof. Katsuya Yamori who serves as an advisor for “Kataribe Kobe 1995” – an organization which passes on the experiences of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake by means of storytellers.  Kataribe Kobe 1995 was awarded the 79th Kobe Shimbun Peace Prize. The award ceremony will be held in Kobe City on 4 June 2025.

Name of the award: 79th Kobe Shimbun Peace Award

Title of the award: “Established as a citizen group in 2005, 10 years after Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, it has been passing on the experiences of the disaster to the next generation.  Their activities are not limited to schools and communities in Hyogo Prefecture but spans nationwide.  The storytellers come from all walks of lives and ages from bereaved families who have lost their relatives, to members born on the day of the earthquake.  Their intention is to pass on the memories to the next generation so that they can be prepared for the unforeseen disasters.”
