Participating in the Samarkand International Climate Forum 2025

Prof. Tanaka and the team of the SATREPS BLUE project were invited by the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to participate in the Samarkand International Climate Forum 2025, held on April 4–5 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

 

The forum brought together over 600 participants from more than 30 countries, including high-level government representatives, international organizations, researchers, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders. Discussions focused on the urgent challenges of climate change, sustainable development, and regional cooperation in water resource management and the transition to a green economy.

 

The opening ceremony was attended and opened by the Presidents of all five Central Asian countries (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan), along with the President of the European Commission, the UN Secretary-General (via video message), representatives from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and other high-level international partners. Major international donors were also present.

 

During the forum, Prof. Tanaka took part in several meetings with key stakeholders to exchange views on ongoing activities and explore opportunities for future collaboration in tackling environmental and water-related challenges in the region.
