[Title]

Interdisciplinary simulation studies of risk assessment and adaptation for low-frequenct flood disasters

[Speakers]

Associate Professor Tomohiro TANAKA,
Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University

[Abstract]

Extreme floods cause serious disasters every year and are projected to become more severe in a changing climate. However, since flood disasters do not always occur every year in the same region, it is not easy to grasp quantitative flood risk and the impact of climate change. This presentation will introduce research that has been promoted using hydrological simulations on how to assess low-frequency flood risk under climate change. We will also introduce our recent work on housing-market simulations using agent-based models for integrated flood risk management. Through these studies, we hope to discuss the potential of interdisciplinary research using computer simulation technologies for comprehensive flood risk management under climate change.
