The Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University invites applications for a permanent Professor position.

 

Location: Research Center for Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, Gokasho, Uji, Kyoto 611-0011, Japan (at home or other places if University allows or orders to work remotely).

 

Job description and required qualifications:

The appointed professor is required to strongly promote research by combining numerical modeling and field observations on elucidating and predicting the mechanisms of heavy rainfall affecting runoff, the impacts of climate change on heavy rainfall, and disaster risk reduction by heavy rainfall control and other countermeasures. The candidate is expected to lead research on hydro-meteorological disasters in Japan and abroad and be able to link from basic science to rainfall runoff into rivers and disaster assessment in river basins. The candidate is also expected to have the progressive ability to develop new research in related fields. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for education in the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering, the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be able to use Japanese on a daily basis.

 

Anticipated start date: As soon as possible after April 1st, 2025

 

Probation period: 6 months

 

Working time: Discretionary labor system (standard working hours: 7 hours 45 minutes per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week). If the discretionary labor system is not chosen the working hours are from 8:30 to 17:15 with a break between 12:00 to 13:00. Overtime may be ordered.Days off: Saturdays, Sundays, Statutory holidays under the Act on National Holidays, Year-end and New Year’s holidays, and Anniversary of Foundation of the University.

 

Salary and Allowance: To be determined in accordance with Kyoto University regulations.

 

Social insurance: (1) National Public Service Mutual Aid Associations, (2) Employee’s pension insurance, (3) Unemployment insurance, and (4) Worker’s accident insurance

(3) Copies of five relevant papers

(4) Brief summary of research and related contributions (up to two A4 pages)

(5) Statement of research plans (up to two A4 pages, including figures)

(6) Recommendation letter(s) or names and contact information of two references (include addresses, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses)
