The Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University invites applications for a permanent Professor position.
Location: Research Center for Earthquake Hazards, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, Gokasho, Uji, Kyoto 611-0011, Japan (at home or other place if University allows or orders to work remotely).
Job description and required qualifications:
The appointed professor is required to conduct research to understand the various types of earthquakes that occur around plate boundaries and to contribute to hazard assessment of ground motions and tsunamis caused by these earthquakes, based on observing the earthquakes, including slow earthquakes, and crustal deformation in the trench and forearc regions and analyzing the observation data. The candidate is also expected to lead international joint research on these earthquakes. The candidate who is willing to engage in research utilizing the Miyazaki Observatory is welcome. In addition, the candidate will have responsibility for education in the Division of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be able to use Japanese on a daily basis.
Anticipated start date: As soon as possible after April 1st, 2025.
Probation period: 6 months
Working time: Discretionary labor system (standard working hours: 7 hours 45 minutes per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week) If the discretionary labor system is not chosen the working hours are from 8:30 to 17:15 with a break between 12:00 to 13:00. Overtime may be ordered.Days off: Saturdays, Sundays, Statutory holidays under the Act on National Holidays, Year-end and New Year’s holidays, and Anniversary of Foundation of the University.
Salary and Allowance: To be determined in accordance with Kyoto University regulations.

(4) Brief summary of research and related contributions (up to two A4 pages)
(5) Statement of research plans (up to two A4 pages, including figures)
(6) Recommendation letter(s) or names and contact information of two references (include addresses, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses)
