The Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position.

 

Location: Research Division of Atmospheric and Hydroshperic Disasters, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, Gokasho, Uji, Kyoto 611-0011, Japan (at home or other place if University allows or orders to work remotely).

 

Job description and required qualifications:

The appointed assistant professor is required to conduct research on boundary-layer meteorological phenomena relevant to local-scale disasters, with emphasis on boundary-layer turbulence and material transport over complex topography. In particular, the candidate is expected to advance studies on turbulence structures and dispersion processes including local-scale phenomena over complex topography like urban areas by using numerical modeling and observations, for the purpose of not only disaster prevention and mitigation but also climate change adapation. As part of Kyoto University promotion of gender equality, this position is only open to female applicants. In addition, the candidate will have responsibility for education in the Division of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be able to use Japanese on a daily basis.

 

Anticipated start date: As soon as possible after the selection.

 

Term of employment: 6 years (contract is renewable once for an additional 4 years, judged in accordance with “the arrangement on evaluation of achievement for faculty staff with term of employment (assistant professor)”)

 

Probation period: 6 months

 

Working time: Discretionary labor system (standard working hours: 7 hours 45 minutes per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week)Days off: Saturdays, Sundays, Statutory holidays under the Act on National Holidays, Year-end and New Year’s holidays, and Anniversary of Foundation of the University.If the discretionary labor system is not chosen, the working hours are from 8:30 to 17:15 with a break between 12:00 to 13:00 and overtime may be ordered.

 

Salary and Allowance: To be determined in accordance with Kyoto University regulations.

 

Social insurance: (1) National Public Service Mutual Aid Associations, (2) Employee’s pension insurance, (3) Unemployment insurance, and (4) Worker’s accident insurance

(4) Brief summary of research and related contributions (up to two A4 pages)

(5) Statement of research plans (up to two A4 pages, including figures)

(6) Recommendation letter(s) or names and contact information of two references (include addresses, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses)
