The talk combines topics related to community-university-interaction with approaches of strategic spatial planning in order to reach a more sustainable spatial development. The case of integrated spatial and energy planning in the Austrian Province Styria is used to illustrate this interrelation. In the presentation it is discussed, how (web-based) strategic databases can be combined with new planning guidances and further education programmes for planners and local decision makers in order to influence municipal decision making.
