The Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University invites applications for a permanent Professor position.

 

Location: Sakurajima Volcano Research Center, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, Sakurajima-Yokoyama, Kagoshima city, Kagoshima 891-1419, Japan.

 
Job description and required qualifications:

The appointed professor is required to promote research on volcanic eruption prediction and volcanic activity transition forecasting for Sakurajima volcano, which has explosive characteristics and continues to be active, and volcanoes in the Nansei Islands, and to oversee interdisciplinary research aimed at mitigating volcanic disasters based on such research, and to lead the planning and promotion of related research in Japan and overseas. The candidate is also expected to be in charge of management of the Sakurajima Volcano Observatory. In addition, the candidate will have responsibility for education in the Division of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be proficient in Japanese.

 

Anticipated start date: April 1st, 2024.

 

Probation period: 6 months

 

Working time: Discretionary labor system (standard working hours: 7 hours 45 minutes per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week)In some occasions, the appointed professor may be directed to work night or day duty.Days off: Saturdays, Sundays, Statutory holidays under the Act on National Holidays, Year-end and New Year’s holidays, and Anniversary of Foundation of the University.

 

Salary and Allowance: To be determined in accordance with Kyoto University regulations.
