The Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University invites applications for a permanent Professor position.
 
Location: Ujigawa Open Laboratory, Research Center for Fluvial and Coastal Disasters, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University,
Shimomisu-Higashinokuchi, Yokooji, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto 612-8235, Japan.
 
Job description and required qualifications:
The appointed professor is required to conduct research on physical mechanisms and mitigation of damages of structures due to tsunami, waves, storm surges, and river floods, and on mechanisms of waves, water flow and sediment dynamics around river and shallow coastal areas. In particular, the candidate is expected to conduct the above research topics through hydraulic experiments using the Hybrid Tsunami Open Flume and other facilities, which should be managed by the candidate. The candidate is also responsible for integral research and education on the above research topics with the Shirahama Oceanographic Observatory using its observation data, and management and support of the research implementation at the Shirahama Oceanographic Observatory and other related observatories as the joint usage facility. In addition, the candidate will have responsibility for education in the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be proficient in Japanese.
 
Anticipated start date: As soon as possible after April 1st, 2023
 
Probation period: 6 months
 
Working time: Discretionary labor system (standard working hours: 7 hours 45 minutes per day, 38 hours 45 minutes per week)
 
Days off: Saturdays, Sundays, Statutory holidays under the Act on National Holidays, Year-end and New Year’s holidays, and Anniversary of Foundation of the University.
 
Salary and Allowance: To be determined in accordance with Kyoto University regulations.
