Title:Capturing and Using Crisis Experiences in Case-based Scenario Training for Strategic Leadership

Introduction:

The lecture will report on crisis management projects run by the Swedish National Center for Crisis Management Research and Training (CRISMART), Sweden, and the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University, United States, that have resulted in crisis-case studies, capturing the experiences of crisis managers during notable events in various countries. The emphasis on operational level crisis- and disaster management in training efforts may often leave out the important engagement of strategic leadership, resulting in strategic leaders who do not understand and/or underestimate their important role as active participants in integrated strategic/operational crisis management. The projects´ crisis-case banks have been effectively used as a training resource and provide, among other things, excellent opportunity to develop case-based scenarios that focus on improving strategic leadership in future crises.
