DPRI received a visit from Mr. Philippe Janvier Kamiyama, the consul-general of France in Kyoto and Mr. Fabien Giraud on the afternoon of April 3rd at the Uji Campus. The purpose of their visit was to enhance knowledge about seismic activity especially in the west Japan. Professor Hori, the Vice Director welcomed them and responded their questions and concerns.

Following the discussion and watching the institute’s introductory DVD, they moved to the telemeter room in the Campus, where data of microearthquakes from observation networks are processed in real time. Associate Professor Katao at the Research Center for Earthquake Prediction introduced the Center and its observation system. They were listening curiously to Prof. Katao’s explanation showing the distribution map of epicenter in west Japan.
