THE SECOND JAPAN-CHINA JOINT WORKSHOP

THE SECOND JAPAN-CHINA JOINT WORKSHOP ON
PREDICTION AND MITIGATION OF SEISMIC RISK
IN URBAN REGIONS

Saturday 14 November - Monday 16 November 1998
Hikone,Japan

Organized
by
Disaster Prevention Research lnstitute,Kyoto University
and
School of Environmental Science,University of Shiga Prefecture

Purpose:
The aim of this workshop is to discuss the Prediction and Mitigation of Seismic Risk in Urban Regions based on the recent catastrophic disasters in both countries, and to determine the type of research necessary to address the above problems in the 21st century. This year is the final year of this program and the DPRl project. Final conclusions must be introduced in this discussion.

Organization:
This workshop is mainly supported by the Monbusho lntemational Scientific Research Program(Leader:T.Fujiwara) and strongly related to the seismic theme of the five-year special project of DPRl on Prediction and Mitigation of Natural Hazard Reduction in East Asia (Indonesia and China)(Leader:K.Irikura). The lnstitute of Engineering Mechanics of the China Seismological Bureau(Leader:Li-Li Xie)is cooperating in this program and the specialproject.

Callfor Papers:
Authors wishing to present papers at the workshop are requested to submit abstracts(A4 size,I page)toDr. K.Matsunami(DPRI,Kyoto Univ.),Abstracts must be received by 15 0ctober,1998.The authors will be requested to submit their final manuscripts in cameraready form(A4 size, maximum 8 pages)at the beginning of the workshop. The technical sessions of the workshop wiu include the fouowing topic areas:
