Development of a Research Road map for the Next Decade
March 19-20, 2015, Uji campus, Kyoto University, Japan

The Second Global Summit of Research Institutes for Disaster Risk Reduction: Development of a Research Road Map for the Next Decade was held at Uji Campus of Kyoto University on 19-20 March 2015.

The Summit was very successful with the participation of 83 (51 from outside of Japan) research organizations and 21 countries/areas. There were two important outcomes of the Summit as follows.

First, the drafting of a Resolution by all the participating organizations with the purpose of sharing knowledge and promoting collaboration on topics related to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience to disasters, as well as to provide support to the UNISDR Sendai Framework and its goals towards DRR. The Resolution was approved by all the participants in the Second Global Summit on March 20, 2015.

Second, the “Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI)” has officially been established. DPRI was designated as the GADRI Secretariat, and Prof. Hirokazu Tatano was appointed as its Secretary General. A Committee has been set up to review the organization of GADRI, and its official functions. All interested institutions that attended the Second Global Summit are invited to join GADRI. Participation in GADRI is completely voluntary and non-binding, and initially there is no fee for membership.
