C-2: Assessment of Landslide Hazards in
Lishan(Yang-Que-Fe Palace)

Investigation of Lishan Landslide in 1995
1)Identification of landslide blocks from geological and geomorphological invesitigation and monitoring of precursor slope deformation by GPS, EDM borehole Inclinometers and extensometers over a crack and inside two investigation tunnels will be inplemented. The results will be compared with those obtained in previous years.
2)Site selection for longitudinal monitoring lines by a series of extensometers and crossing monitoring lines by three dimensional shear displacement meters, and examination of setting, accuracy and effective monitoring ways in Lishan will be conducted.
3)High-pressure triaxial tests of the Pre-Cambrian gneiss rocks taken from the investigation tunnel in Lishan will be carried out in DPRI, and shear strength of the gneiss rocks in intact parts and also along disturbed zones will be obtained.

Exchange of researchers
1)One Chinese researcher visited DPRI from the end of March for one month, and analyzed the Lishan landslide movement data monitored by the Lishan landslide observatory in 1994.
2)Five joint researchers from the Chinese counterpart will be invited to Kyoto for the joint workshop in 20`29 August and discuss on the result of investigation up to 1994.
3)One Japanese researcher will visit the Changchun Geological College and the Lishan landslide observatory from September to October, He will direct ring shear tests on weathered gneiss and loess taken from Lishan by the Changchun Geological College, and investigate landslide movement in Lishan.
4)Nine Japanese researchers will visit the Lishan landslide in October to carry out field investigation, monitoring, and to discuss on the results of the investigation and the further co-operation plan.

Workshops
l)The Japan-China Joint Workshop on the Lishan landslide will be held in 21`22 August at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University.
2)International Symposium on Prediction of Rapid Landslide Motion will be held in 16`22 September at DPRI. Research for the assessment of landslide hazards in Lishan Will be discussed as a typical example of prediction of rapid landslide motion in this symposium.
3)The China-Japan Joint Workshop on the Lishan landslide will be held in l0`11 0ctober at the Xian Technical College and the Lishan Landslide Observatory, Lintong, China.
